Home Gym Planning
I’m planning to invest in a home gym. I need it for three things: squat, bench press, and deadlift. So I need a barbell, plates, a power rack, a bench, and flooring. I want to keep the costs as low as possible while still getting quality equipment that will last.
I’m not so worried about all of this being the best of the best. I could always upgrade down the line. This is more of an initial test investment. Though I do plan to use it a few times a week for many years.
Here’s a breakdown of the equipment I’m considering:
Barbell
Minimum requirements: 7ft / 20kg / 2in sleeves
- Cheap barbell
- $100, free shipping
- 330 lbs max weight capacity
Plates
- CAP Barbell Olympic 2-Inch Weight Set
- $300, free shipping
- 190lbs, ‘Elite’ quality
Power rack
- CAP Barbell FM-905Q
- $160, free overnight shipping. Best price hands down.
Bench
- Cheap folding bench
- $100, free shipping
Flooring
Minimum requirements: (x2) 4ft x 6ft, 1/4 inch thick (3/4 inch is better but overkill for a home gym)
- Amazon
- $140 each, free shipping
Costs
- Minimum: $940 plus tax
